Defining PLM

PLM (Product Lifecycle Management)  is an extraodinary vague concept for many. Everyone seems to have their own definition of  the term. For many, it's just an extended role of PDM (Product Data Management). Some (Oracle, SAP, AMR and others) view PLM as it relates to SCM (Supply Chain Management) . Cyon Research and COFES look at it from the design side and how PLM relates to design creation an the use of the design information to manufacture, maintain, promote, sell, and support the product.  What we really need is a common, joint resolution of the various definitions so that we can get a simple, succinct concept that users can get a handle on.

And maybe it should be PLM. Is there another term that would serve us better?
