Cyon Research Study Analyzes Use of Building Information Model

Virtual Building from Graphisoft Offers New Take on Construction

BETHESDA, MD, January 02, 2003 - Cyon Research Corporation, a leader in market knowledge for the CAD, AEC, and PLM markets, today issued a white paper analyzing the use of Graphisoft's Virtual Building modeling software, a platform that makes it possible for all documentation for a building to be generated on-demand from a single model.

The paper, titled "The Building Information Model: A Look at Graphisoft's Virtual Building Concept," studies the usefulness and implementation of software that allows all documents to be created as required from a single building information model. The advantage of this type of implementation is that changes to one document are instantly reflected in the model itself, and hence in all project documents. This ensures all plans, schedules and communications are consistent with one another throughout the project.

The foundation of the Virtual Building is powerful modeling software. The software enables designers to create functional 3D models in which each object (doors, windows, etc.) has the same parameters and physical properties, and much of the behavior, it would have, had it been built to scale.

"Success in the implementation of a building information model is achievable, as users of Graphisoft's Virtual Building have demonstrated," stated Dr. Joel Orr, Vice President and Chief Visionary, Cyon Research. "But it demands careful planning, and a significant amount of education and training for all project participants."

The white paper is available free-of-charge at:
