COFES 2014 Begins
--Design and engineering software visionaries gather for the fifteenth annual Congress on the Future of Engineering Software in Scottsdale, Arizona--

Scottsdale, Ariz., April 24, 2014—Cyon Research Corporation today welcomes attendees to the opening of the fifteenth annual Congress on the Future of Engineering Software (COFES). COFES runs April 24-27 at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort.
Widely recognized as a think-tank event, COFES gathers vendors, users, press, and analysts together to discuss the most important issues facing both customers and providers of design and engineering technologies. The three-day event provides a relaxed and informal atmosphere designed to foster thoughtful conversation. Key to the success of COFES is its briefings and roundtable discussions, where participants explore trends and technologies of engineering software that will drive future innovation.
“COFES provides a forum for industry leaders worldwide to gather and discuss the current issues and the future of software for design and engineering,” explains Brad Holtz, Cyon Research President and CEO. “We’re excited about this year’s theme, ‘Correcting 2020 Vision’, as it forces our attention to look further down the road to a six-year horizon. Much of the discussion will center on the non-linear nature of the future beyond the two-year horizon. Our goal at COFES is help attendees achieve this clearer vision – one that better reflects the business realities we will face by 2020.”
Friday’s keynote speaker is Paul Saffo, a technology forecaster with over two decades of experience helping corporate and governmental clients understand and respond to the dynamics of large-scale, long-term change. In his keynote, Saffo will discuss the fallacies of natural instincts for thinking about the future and focus on ways of thinking that can provide a clearer foresight for long-term planning.
The keynote speaker for Saturday is George Dyson, historian of science, whose writings explore the history of computing, the development of algorithms and intelligence, communication systems, space exploration, and the design of water craft. Dyson’s keynote will explore insights drawn from historical attempts at predicting where technology will be at some future point in time.
Past attendees of COFES agree that COFES is an invaluable industry event:

  • "I have attended 13 of the 15 COFES conferences. It's a standard part of my calendar because it's probably the 3 most important days of my year for connecting and reconnecting with industry leaders,” explained Ron Fritz, CEO of Tech Soft 3D. “If registration for COFES 2015 - 2020 were open, I would already be signed up.”
  • "As the need for Product Line Engineering and PLM technologies to interoperate continues to grow, collaboration and information sharing are of vital importance,” said Charles Krueger, BigLever Software CEO. “COFES provides an invaluable opportunity for a meeting of the minds that will help further the convergence of these engineering disciplines.”
  • "COFES is so much more than just another conference. Through face-to-face discussions and information exchange with industry leaders and gurus, we have a chance to explore key technologies and related issues,” concluded Sergey Bikulov, Executive Director, Top Systems. “COFES is an extraordinary opportunity for us to verify our business course and adjust our R&D strategy."
Also starting today is the sixth annual Design and Sustainability (DaS) Symposium. The DaS Symposium explores the intersection of design, simulation, and sustainability for both the built and manufactured environment. This free, invitation only event is a forum for the discussion of design and sustainability issues, with a special focus on how the makers of software tools for design and engineering can help their customers design more responsibly. The DaS Symposium explores the ways industry helps others make better informed decisions and in particular, looks to identify ideas that are best served by collaborative efforts of the software community.
