When it announced the winner of the 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award, the CAD Society noted that Dr. Russell F. Henke was selected to receive the award for his life-long dedication to the CAD industry as a top-level engineer, educator, corporate executive, entrepreneur, consultant, board member and respected industry analyst.
During his 29 year corporate career, Dr. Henke oversaw the development, marketing, sales, and support of many commercially-successful software applications, as well as administering global professional services in the industrial and electronics manufacturing sectors in electronic design automation (EDA); finite-element analysis; and mechanical CAD/CAM systems. Dr. Henke is currently president of Henke Associates, business/management consultants to nearly four-dozen high-technology client companies worldwide for the last thirteen years. Henke Associates is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dr. Henke became affiliated with Cyon Research in early 2007.
In addition to his executive positions at Mentor Graphics Corporation and Gould Electronics, Dr. Henke was CEO at Automation Technology Products, EVP at Schlumberger Applicon, president & COO at SDRC and board member at MSC. Dr. Henke began his career in the machine-tool training program at the Cincinnati Milling Machine Company and simultaneously earned ME, MS, and PhD degrees at the University of Cincinnati. He also "moonlighted" as an adjunct assistant professor, teaching mathematics and engineering for 13 years.
In 1989, Dr. Henke received a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Cincinnati. A member of ASME, IEEE, and the SME, he was elected an SME Fellow in Class of 2000, then one of only 225 Fellows in SME's entire history. The SME membership elected him as an International SME Director in 2001. Dr. Henke received an award for Professional Leadership from the IEEE in 2002, and he was elected an ASME International Fellow in 2003 and ASME Life Fellow in 2006.
